
Stop Letting Your Heater Ruin Your Vacuum
If you’re running a Class 100 cleanroom, you already know the nightmare of particle shedding or chemical outgassing. One tiny bit of debris and your whole batch is toast. The problem is that most standard heaters just aren’t built for this. They use adhesives, cheap coatings, or metals that basically fall apart under heat, dumping contaminants right into your vacuum chamber. We figured out a better way: high-purity synthetic quartz infrared lamps. The secret is in the materials We use fused silica quartz. It’s incredibly pure, which means you don’t have to worry about volatile organic compounds (VOCs) leaking out when you ramp up the heat. And unlike regular glass, this stuff doesn’t crack when the temperature swings wildly. We also stripped out every single organic binder in the assembly. Why? Because when you pull that vacuum, you want the heater to stay quiet. No “off-gassing,” no ruined wafers, no headaches. Dealing with the vacuum struggle Here’s the thing about heat in a vacuum: you’ve only got radiation to work with. Since there’s no air to move the heat around, the lamp surface can get hot—fast. We’ve dialed in these lamps for high power density. It gets your target up to temperature quickly, which saves you a ton of time in your cycle. But a quick heads-up: check your heat shielding. If that radiation bounces back into the lamp housing, you’re basically cooking your own electrodes. Making it actually work in the real world We use standard connectors, so these are pretty much drop-in replacements. The real danger zone in these setups is usually the seal between the quartz tube and the electrical lead. That’s where most leaks happen. To fix that, we use a specialized hermetic seal that keeps the air out and the vacuum tight. One last tip. High-purity quartz is chemically tough, but it’s physically brittle. If your vacuum pump vibrates a lot, those tiny shakes can cause micro-fractures over time. I’d suggest using dampened mounting brackets. It’s a small tweak, but it makes the lamps last a lot longer.
