Why Carbon Fiber beats Metal Halogen
I prefer carbon fiber because it doesn’t get nearly as scorching on the surface as tungsten does, even though you get the same amount of heat. That’s a huge deal when you’re dealing with chemical leaks. You’re much less likely to hit a flash point and start a fire. Plus, the heat sinks deeper into your cleaning fluid or parts, so you don’t have to blast as much energy to get to the temperature you need.
The Trade-off: Heat and Power
Now, there is a downside. Because we’ve added that protective sleeve, the lamp has more “thermal mass.” In plain English? It takes a bit longer to warm up. It’s not instant. To fix that, we pump up the wattage density. Just keep in mind that your power supply and wiring need to be beefy enough to handle the extra current. Getting it Installed
When you’re wiring these into a hazardous zone, don’t wing it. Use explosion-proof conduits and certified glands. The sleeve protects the lamp from the chemicals, but the electrical connections still need a rated enclosure to stay safe. And one last tip:**use 316 stainless steel for your mounting brackets.**Anything weaker will just pit and corrode in that environment, and nobody wants to replace brackets every few months.
